Team BikeExchange-Jayco Riders Score Four National Titles!

27. juni 2022

It was national road championships week for many nations around the world, and Team BikeExchange-Jayco riders brought home four national titles from the U.S., Trinidad and Tobago, and Slovenia.

On the women’s side, Teniel Campbell won both the road and time trial championship in Trinidad and Tobago, while Slovenian Urška Žigart won her second national TT title. On the men’s side, American Lawson Craddock scored his second straight time trial championship in the U.S.

Campbell kicked off her double win campaign by winning the T&T elite women’s time trial with a time of 33:36. The 24-year-old used her CADEX AeroWheelSystem to earn the victory at the Lara Cricket Academy. One day later, Campbell completed the double when she rode her Liv Langma Advanced SL Disc with a CADEX Road WheelSystem to a win in the road race.

In Slovenia, Žigart, riding with a CADEX Aero WheelSystem, attacked the short, punchy 14.4km time trial course in Nove Mesto. She posted a time of 20:11 to earn back the elite women’s TT title, which she last won in 2000. “Today was quite a short time trial, only 14.4km, but it had quite a few elevation meters, 240 I think,” Žigart said. “So I played that to my strengths, I paced myself well, I had good legs and I left everything out on the line. I’m really happy that I got the title again, when I won it back in 2020 it was kind of a mountain time trial, but this one was a proper one. It was hard, but everything went well.”

In the U.S, Craddock captured the 2022 U.S. men’s national time trial championship, earning the right to wear the stars-and-stripes jersey for the second year in a row. The 30-year-old blitzed the 34.9km course near Knoxville, Tennessee, with a time of 40:39 on his Giant Trinity Advanced Pro TT bike with a CADEX Aero WheelSystem.

“I’m really happy and really proud to keep the jersey for another year,” said Craddock, who had to overcome the heat as temperatures hit 36 degrees Celsius (97 Fahrenheit). “It’s no secret that Team BikeExchange-Jayco have really stepped up all things time trialing this year, everyone on the team has really taken it to a whole new level, and I think this is a testament to the work we’ve put in with Giant, CADEX and our other partners.”

The course featured three laps of a mostly flat 11.6km circuit on the shores of Melton Lake, located about 30 minutes west of Knoxville. Craddock got stronger as the race wore on. After one lap he was 5 seconds off the leading pace of Ineos Grenadiers rider Magnus Sheffield. He made up 2 seconds on the second lap and poured it on during the final lap to beat Sheffield by 4 seconds at the finish. George Simpson (Project Echelon Racing) finished third, 1:48 back, to earn the bronze medal.

“In the end it was a great battle with Magnus,” Craddock said. “He’s a really great rider with an incredibly promising future. I had to pull a few tricks out of the bag to squeak the win, but it’s a really exciting day for me and I’m really proud of what we, as a team, have accomplished.”
