Nikki Bartlett produced a brilliantly controlled performance in Poland, overcoming a 1:41 deficit after the swim before taking charge of the race on the bike.
Emerging from the water in eighth position, Bartlett wasted little time in moving through the field. Before the 45km mark, the British athlete had climbed to fourth and reduced the gap to the front to just 16 seconds.
Within a few kilometres, Bartlett had powered into the lead—and she never looked back.
By the time she reached T2, Bartlett had built an advantage of around 90 seconds. She remained composed throughout the run, consolidating her position at the front and crossing the line in 4:08:26 to secure an impressive victory.
“The CADEX bike is a game changer,” Bartlett said. “It’s so comfortable. I don’t feel any tightness in my shoulders or lower back, and I feel ready to deliver my best run afterwards. I felt powerful all day.”
The result carried added significance following a challenging eight months for Bartlett.
“The atmosphere was one of the standout parts of the race for me,” she said. “After all the setbacks over the last eight months, this felt so amazing. The town, the atmosphere, the race and the location—it was an honour to compete here.
“You have to be on your A-game to get onto that podium. I feel like I’m getting fitter and stronger with age, and to do this at 39 years old is so special.”
Crossing the finish line first was a moment Bartlett was determined to savour.
“Running down the finish line is something I’ll never take for granted,” she said. “Finishing a race in first place is so hard to describe. I couldn’t get to sleep last night because I was so excited—I just hoped it hadn’t all been a dream.”
Bartlett will now return home to celebrate with her family before turning her attention to the next major target on her calendar: IRONMAN Wales.
“I love that race so much,” she said. “I may do one or three races either before or after Wales, but for now, that’s what I’m aiming towards. I’m heading home tonight to celebrate with my family before starting my final preparation.”
With another victory secured—and a decisive performance on the bike laying its foundations—Bartlett heads towards the next part of her season with confidence, strength and momentum firmly on her side.
