The 2019 UCI Road World Championships kicked off Sunday with the team time trial mixed relay, a new event made up of national teams featuring both men and women in the same race. The Netherlands team won the gold medal with CCC-Liv Team rider Riejanne Markus as part of the women’s squad.

The new race format was made up of national teams divided into two units of three women and three men. Each team completed one 14km lap in Harrogate, for a total of 28km between the two squads. The combined times of the men and women determined the winners. Markus rode her CADEX Aero WheelSystem including a composite full disc rear wheel and a 4-spoke aero front wheel.
