The 26-year-old Mislawchuk rode a CADEX 42 WheelSystem to repeat his 2019 win in Huatulco. Having already qualified for the Canadian Olympic squad, Mislawchuk has spent the past year preparing for Tokyo in July. The win in Mexico was a boost, showing he’s on form for his goal.
“I’m over the moon,” Mislawchuk said after his win. “I worked my socks off. [Fellow Canadian] Matt Sharpe and I wanted to control the race and rip a quick run.”
On a hot day, with temperatures reaching 86 degrees F (30 C), the Canadian came out of the 750-meter swim in third position. From there, he rode the 20km bike leg near the front of the pack, hitting the 5km run with a lead group. American Kevin McDowell was first to surge off the front, but Mislawchuk matched the effort, then left the rest of the field behind en route to the win.
“I’ve trained so hard over the last 18 months,” Mislawchuk said afterward. “We emptied our souls training in Hawaii and I’ve not been home in 14 months, living out of a suitcase. I dedicate my life to this and everything goes into this.”

Canadian Tyler Mislawchuk won the third round of the 2021 World Triathlon Cup in Huatulco, Mexico, putting in a fast time on the bike and then dominating the run with a time of 14:49. The CADEX-sponsored triathlete crossed the finish of the sprint-distance event with a time of 53:09, topping the podium ahead of Brazilians Manoel Messias in second and Miguel Hidalgo in third.
