Blummenfelt Rides CADEX to Ironman 70.3 World Title!

30 жовтня 2022 р.

CADEX triathlete Kristian Blummenfelt captured his first Ironman 70.3 World Championship title in St. George, Utah, adding to his impressive list of recent wins.

Blummenfelt was right at home in St. George, where he has won two of the three major events held there over the past 13 months—including the full-distance 2021 Ironman World Championship.

Beyond that, Blummenfelt has the gold medal from the 2020 Olympic Games to his name as well as his record-breaking Sub 7 win earlier this year. The 28-year-old Norwegian also won the bronze medal at the 2022 Ironman World Championships in Kona just three weeks ago.

Blummenfelt got off to a solid start in the 1.9km swim in Sand Hollow Reservoir, staying within 30 seconds of the leaders. With a fast transition, he hopped onto his CADEX Tri bike and immediately began making up ground.  Riding with his CADEX Aero WheelSystem, Blummenfelt settled into a lead group that was down to four riders by the 75km mark of the 90km bike leg.

Looking comfortable on his endurance aero machine, Blummenfelt finished his ride 10 seconds behind race leader Magnus Ditlev, sticking with his pacing strategy to stay fresh for the run. With another fast transition, Blummenfelt hit the run first, setting up a battle with Ben Kanute. The American came on strong out of T2 in pursuit of Blummenfelt. He caught Blummenfelt 3km into the 21.1km run as they entered the Dixie Red Hills Golf Course, which included a cross-country section that combined cart paths and grass fairways.

“I felt strong all the way,” Blummenfelt said. “I was surprised how strong Ben was on the run, so I tried to hold back as long as possible before putting it into second gear.”

Blummenfelt and Kanute ran together for most of the run, with Ditlev chasing in third about a minute back. Finally, with just over 4km to go, Blummenfelt made his move on a downhill section and pulled away from Kanute. He went on to win with a time of 3:37:12, 49 seconds ahead of Kanute. Ditlev held on for third.
