Blummenfelt Rides CADEX to World Triathlon Cup Podium!

Monday, 29 August 2022

CADEX triathlete Kristian Blummenfelt has been on a tear this year with his transition to longer distance triathlons, including his win at the Ironman World Championships in St. George, Utah, and his record-setting Sub7 victory. Over the weekend he changed things up and contested a sprint distance event, the 2022 World Triathlon Cup, in his hometown of Bergen, Norway, scoring a podium placing in a thrilling finish.

Blummenfelt put on an impressive display for the home crowd, which turned out in force with over 20,000 fans lining the streets of Bergen. Though his main focus right now is preparing to defend his Ironman World Championship in Kona in October, Blummenfelt is no stranger to shorter distance triathlons. In addition to his recent Ironman-distance accolades, he is also the current Olympic gold medalist and the 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series winner.

Blummenfelt showed his speed and power from the start, finishing the short 750m swim about 20 seconds behind early leader Nicolò Strada of Italy. From there, hopping onto his new Giant Propel Advanced SL road bike built up with the all-new CADEX 50 Ultra Disc WheelSystem and CADEX Aero tires, Blummenfelt immediately began making up ground, and soon caught the lead group.

Introduced earlier this month, the new WheelSystem beats the competition in aero performance, weight, stiffness and efficiency with zero compromises to stability and control. He paired the WheelSystem with new CADEX Aero tires, which feature a taller, oval-shaped profile and seamless integration with the wheels for a further boost in speed and efficiency.

A perfect choice for the technical bike leg in Bergen, Blummenfelt’s CADEX WheelSystem and tires helped him conquer the hills, tight corners and cobblestone sections with the fastest split (31 minutes flat) on the 20.8km bike leg. Feeling confident on his home streets, he went straight to the front and drove the lead group of 12. They held a gap of 45 seconds on the first chase group through the second transition.

The lead group was whittled down on the 5km run until it was just Blummenfelt and Frenchman Dorian Coninx battling for the win on the final climb. Coninx found an extra gear on the final uphill stretch to the blue carpet finishing stretch and was able to edge out the Norwegian in a thrilling sprint to the line.

“I know that I have been doing mostly long distance races this year, but I have been preparing for Bergen all year long,” Blummenfelt said. “I am just extremely happy to be able to do it at home in front of so many people. It was incredible.”

Also representing Giant in Bergen was Blummenfelt’s fellow Norwegian and CADEX-sponsored triathlete Gustav Iden, who rode the CADEX 50 Ultra Disc WheelSystem and Aero tires to a solid 15th place finish.
